COVID-19 Update 3/19/20

March 19, 2020 5:00 PM

An update from Superintendent, Dr. Nathan Morris:

During an afternoon press conference today, Governor Asa Hutchinson closed all Arkansas public schools through April 17th. We have been preparing for the possibility of extended closure and are committed to providing all of our students with a quality virtual learning experience while schools are out.

For those who are looking past Spring Break, Cross County School District will use AMI Days 5-9 for the week of March 30th-April 3rd.

If you have not already, please fill out our internet and device survey at this link: https://forms.gle/48NvYceB5tosgomf6 so we can adequately plan for all students during extended closure. I am grateful for the 265 parents who have taken the time to complete the survey already.

Food service delivery will continue over Spring Break and will remain an absolute priority for our district. Next week, breakfasts and lunches will be bundled and delivered once a day at lunch time. Meals will include lunch for that day and breakfast for the next morning. Breakfast for Monday will be delivered with tomorrow’s lunch. Families can expect food to arrive in the afternoon during Spring Break at roughly the same time as it has this past week. If you have any questions concerning food service, please email me at nathan.morris@crosscountyschools.com. We are here to help.

Unfortunately, the guidelines limiting gatherings to less than ten people require the district to cancel Networking Night and Prom. We know this is heartbreaking for the students looking forward to these events but want to give our families this information as soon as possible so they have time to adjust. As we get more information after our initial closure in April, we will look at rescheduling these events.

Getting the news that our schools will be closed until April 17th has been difficult. Our staff wants nothing more than to be with our students, in class, growing and learning together. Until that is possible, you have my word that we are doing everything we can to mitigate the negative impact of these closures. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with your concerns, I will do everything in my power to help.

In solidarity,

Dr. Morris
