Cross County High School successfully hosted a highly anticipated Networking Night event on April 11. The event brought together over 75 professionals from Northeast Arkansas and 75 juniors and seniors from Cross County High School for an evening of networking and learning opportunities. The highlight of the event was the keynote speech delivered by Matthew Swenson, Senior Director of College Access and Network with the New Tech Network.
Cross County held their first Networking Night event in 2016 as part of their nationally recognized College x Career x Choice (C^3) program before being canceled due to Covid-19 concerns.
“We are so happy to be bringing this event back for our students,” said College Advisor Wes Hooper. “There is so much benefit to having students network with professionals from all around the area, especially kids from a rural district in the heart of the Arkansas Delta.
Hooper said the event brings Cross County’s C^3 program one step closer to fulfilling its mission of providing students with the resources, support, and advising necessary to allow them the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Networking Night provided a unique opportunity for students to connect with local professionals from various industries and gain insights into their careers. The event was held at Harmony Gardens in Jonesboro, and the atmosphere was filled with excitement as students eagerly engaged in conversations with professionals, seeking advice on career choices, job opportunities, and educational paths.
Matthew Swenson, who has extensive experience in college access and networking, delivered an inspiring keynote speech. He shared valuable insights into the importance of networking and left a lasting impression on both the students and the professionals in attendance.
According to Hooper, networking is the most important way people find jobs, with some statistics saying that up to 85% of jobs are never actually advertised, but instead filled by word of mouth and networking.
"We are thrilled to have revived such a successful event, bringing together professionals and students in a meaningful and impactful way,” said Hooper. “The opportunity to connect with local professionals and learn from their experiences is invaluable for our students as they navigate their career paths. We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the event."
