COVID-19 Update 3/11/20

Parents and guardians,

Today, Governor Asa Hutchinson announced a presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. We are closely monitoring the spread of the virus throughout the state and are coordinating with the Arkansas Department of Health, the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and our local agencies to ensure we have the most up-to-date information and guidelines.

We will use information from governmental agencies and healthcare professionals to guide future decisions on school closings. There is currently no plan to cancel classes. Decisions on school closings will take into consideration the health of our students and staff, since safety is always our primary concern. If the need arises, we will utilize Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) Days for a school cancellation to limit the disruption to student learning.

In order to assist, parents, students, and staff can:

  • Avoid contact with sick people

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands

  • Stay home when you are sick

  • Cover all coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands

  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow instead of on your hand

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces with a regular household cleaning spray or wipe

  • Stay home from school if you have a fever or respiratory issues

For more guidance related to COVID-19, please visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website at www.cdc.gov/COVID19

We will continue to monitor this situation and update you as more information becomes available.

Thank you,

Dr. Nathan Morris
