Cherry Valley, AR — The Cross County School District is proud to announce LeAmber Parker as the Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Parker, a 2013 graduate of Cross County High School, has dedicated herself to inspiring and empowering students in her classroom and beyond.
After graduating high school, Mrs. Parker attended East Arkansas Community College before transferring to Arkansas State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education for Social Sciences in December 2017. She began her teaching career at CCHS in special education, a role she quickly embraced. The following year, she took on teaching AP History and special education, blending her passion for history with her commitment to meeting the diverse needs of her students.
"Teaching AP History is incredibly meaningful to me because it was my own AP History teacher who instilled in me a love for the subject," said Mrs. Parker. "I thought about how inspiring he was, how he went above and beyond for his students, and I wanted to do that for my students."
While special education wasn’t initially part of her career plan, Mrs. Parker has found immense fulfillment in the role. "It’s changed my perspective and focus," she shared. "Instead of solely concentrating on the content, I now prioritize student needs and how to connect with each individual."
Mrs. Parker’s teaching philosophy centers on innovation and student engagement. She incorporates technology and Kagan structures—strategies that foster social skills, communication, and collaboration—into her lessons. She is also a firm believer in modeling behaviors and concepts to guide her students effectively.
Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Parker’s leadership roles are numerous. She sponsors the Student Council, organizing events like Homecoming and Hoopfest, and serves as a mentor teacher and a member of the leadership team through the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET). In this capacity, she conducts walkthroughs and observations, providing valuable feedback to help fellow teachers grow professionally.
“LeAmber Parker embodies the heart and spirit of education,” said Cody Goulart, Cross County High School Principal. “She inspires her students daily and works tirelessly to ensure every child feels valued and empowered. Her ability to connect with students and colleagues is truly remarkable."
Dr. Nathan Morris, Superintendent of Cross County School District, echoed these sentiments: “Mrs. Parker is an extraordinary educator whose impact extends far beyond her classroom. Her commitment to innovation, leadership, and meeting the needs of every student exemplifies the mission of our district. We are proud to honor her as our Teacher of the Year.”
Mrs. Parker’s passion for teaching has been evident from an early age. “When I was a kid, I loved playing school with my friends,” she recalled. “I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, and I’m so grateful to be living my dream right here at Cross County High School.”
The Cross County School District congratulates Mrs. Parker on this well-deserved recognition and thanks her for her unwavering dedication to educating and inspiring the next generation. She will be recognized at tonight’s Cross County Chamber of Commerce Banquet.
