Cross County School District is proud to announce that Cross County Elementary Technology Academy (CCETA) has been named a 2026 State School of Character by Character.org, recognizing the school’s strong commitment to building a culture centered on character, leadership, and student growth.
CCETA is making history as the first school in Arkansas to receive this designation since the program began in 1993, marking a milestone achievement for both the district and the state.
Each year, Character.org recognizes schools that demonstrate a deep commitment to developing environments where students grow academically while also building essential character traits such as empathy, responsibility, perseverance, and integrity. The designation is based on the organization’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools, a research-based model used nationwide.
“This recognition reflects years of intentional work by our staff, students, and families to build something special,” said Kathryn Pruiett, Master Teacher for Character Education. “At CCETA, character isn’t something we add on—it’s embedded in everything we do. Through our Creatures of Character initiative and daily classroom experiences, our students are learning what it means to lead with integrity, show compassion, and take responsibility for their actions.”
To earn the State School of Character designation, CCETA underwent a rigorous application and evaluation process, demonstrating clear evidence that character development is woven into academics, relationships, and school culture. Schools recognized at the state level are seen as strong models of implementation and often continue working toward national recognition.
Superintendent Dr. Nathan Morris emphasized the importance of this recognition for the district and community.
“This is a historic moment for Cross County and for Arkansas education,” said Morris. “Being named a State School of Character reflects our commitment to educating the whole child. We are focused on more than academics—we are preparing students to think analytically, collaborate effectively, and become responsible citizens who lead with strong character.”
The recognition adds to CCETA’s growing list of honors and highlights the district’s continued focus on character education as a foundation for student success.
For the Cross County School District, this designation represents more than recognition—it reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that every student is equipped not only with knowledge, but with the character needed to succeed in life.
