Help us welcome Mrs. Caren Liebmann to the Thunderbird community! Mrs. Liebmann will be a Special Education teacher in the high school. Mrs. Liebmann currently lives in Harrisburg, Arkansas. She graduated college from the University of North Alabama in 2006. “I am so excited to get to know the kids and community,” said Mrs. Liebmann. After being out of education for a while Mrs. Liebmann is excited to be back in and to be a part of the Thunderbird family. “I am looking forward to growing as a teacher and making a positive impact on my students and Cherry Valley,” she added. Currently, Mrs. Liebmann lives with her husband, Martin Liebmann, and her son, Autry. She loves spending time with her family, traveling, hiking, planning special events, and music and dancing.

Help us welcome Mr. Joseph Brown to the Thunderbird community! Mr. Brown will be teaching English at the high school this year. Mr. Brown currently lives in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He graduated from Caddo Hills High School, and he also graduated from Arkansas State University with degrees in Social Science and Political Science, along with receiving his Digital Humanities Certificate. “I’m looking forward to meeting my new students, along with getting to know the people in the community,” says Mr. Brown. After working in the automotive industry for 20 years, Mr. Brown says that he is excited about being a Thunderbird because he will be “starting his new career in a great school district!” Currently, Mr. Brown lives with his wife Michelle and his daughter Allison. He is an automobile enthusiast and is interested in history, genealogy, technology, and is a videogamer.

Welcome Mrs. Reagan Simmons to the Thunderbird community! Mrs. Reagan will be teaching 5th grade math and science classes at the elementary this year. Mrs. Reagan currently lives in Colt, Arkansas. She graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 2021 with a degree in Education to teach elementary K-6. “I’m excited to be a part of the new, close-knit community and to have the opportunity to teach their children!,” proudly states Mrs. Reagan. She is very excited about coming to Cross County and teaching the children here. Mrs. Reagan lives with her husband Noah and their two cats, Pepper and Yeti. She enjoys reading, hiking, visiting family and friends, visiting state parks, and she is also a summer park ranger at Greers Ferry Lake in Heber Springs, AR.

Welcome Mrs. Bethany Niswonger to the Thunderbird family! Mrs. Niswonger will be teaching kindergarten this year at Cross County Technology Academy. Mrs. Niswonger is originally from Cabot, Arkansas, and graduated from Arkansas State University in May 2022 with a Bachelors of Science in Education. This is the first year of her teaching career. “I’m excited to be a part of the school culture. I am also excited to bring Westin and Lizzy with me and to watch them grow!” she says. This year Mrs. Niswonger is looking forward to having her own classroom and watching her students grow. She currently lives in Wynne, Arkansas, with her husband, Justin, and her 2 children, Westin and Lizzy. She enjoys spending time with her family and traveling.

Please welcome Sami Selby to the Thunderbird family! Mrs. Selby will be teaching kindergarten this year at Cross County Elementary Technology Academy. ​Mrs. Selby is originally from Lonoke, Arkansas, and graduated from Arkansas State University in 2012 with a Bachelors in Mid-Level Education. She brings 10 years of teaching experience to the classroom ranging from PreK-12th grade. “I am truly looking forward to laying the beginning layers of an educational foundation for our Kindergarten students,” said Mrs. Selby “In my classroom experience I have come to value and treasure the early school years and the information and skills that children learn during this time. I am humbled that I get to be a part of such a critical time in students’ learning and educational experience as a whole.” Mrs. Selby is married to head boys basketball coach Jared Selby and they have three children, Amber, Emarie, and Rivers.

This week we are going to be introducing new faculty at Cross County. Welcome Ms. Kara Lee to the T-Bird family! Ms. Lee will be teaching high school resource math this year at Cross County High School. Ms. Lee currently lives in Cherry Valley, Arkansas. She graduated from Arkansas State University this year with a degree in psychology. “Cross County will always be home and I’m excited to be a Thunderbird again!,” said Ms.Lee Ms. Lee enjoys horseback riding, barrel racing, hiking, kayaking, and field testing with her dog Bru. She is excited for her first year teaching, and is looking forward to meeting everyone.

You may walk your student in the first day (August 3), but after that, please drop them off in the car rider line or have them ride the bus. As a reminder, students will need a backpack or laptop bag to carry and store their device in during the school day. We are excited to start a great school year and to see everyone! All 8th - 12th grade students in band will need to be present, as well as color guard/majorette members. Lunch will be provided. Please make sure you bring water and sunscreen.

SUMMER MEAL DELIVERY UPDATE! Cross County School District has been given an extension from the USDA concerning how summer meals are delivered. Meal deliveries for July will be the same as they were in June. Deliveries will begin on July 5th with four days worth of food and will continue on July 11th, July 18th, and July 25th.

Cross County School District is excited to announce Coach Kyle James as the new head basketball coach for the Junior High and Senior High Lady Thunderbirds. Coach James is a 2016 graduate of Cross County High School and received his Bachelor’s of Social Science in Education from Arkansas State University in 2020. For the past two years Coach James has taught Civics and World History and been the assistant coach for junior and senior high boys at Rivercrest High School. Coach James is looking forward to being back at Cross County to make a difference. “Having the opportunity to be a Thunderbird again and help create positive change within the district and community is a blessing to me,” said Coach James. “The ability to be closer to home and transform this program into a winning program is something I take great pride in.” Coach James believes work off the court will bring successes on the court. “Helping these girls build good work ethic habits will translate to wins on the basketball court, but also help mold these girls into good citizens to be successful in anything they want to accomplish after high school,” said Coach James. “The vision I have for this basketball program is to build a culture of hard work and professionalism.” Coach James and his fiance Terra have one son, Grayson. Seniors and parents of seniors: Graduation will be Friday, May 13, 2022 at 7 PM in the High School Gym. CCHS would like to invite parents to senior signing day Thursday, May 12 at 9 AM in cafeteria. Graduation practice will be at 1:00 PM Thursday. All graduates are required to attend. All seniors will need to have their checkout forms completed by then as well.
