FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (November 11, 2021) The latest ACHI data released Thursday, November 11, 2021 indicates Cross County School is now in the “dark green” level. Cross County School District’s mask policy states: If the Cross County School District falls within the “yellow” or “green” level based on the most recent data published by the Department of Health or the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement, then the District will no longer enforce a mandatory mask policy. With the District falling below that threshold with the newly released data from ACHI, the Cross County School District will NO LONGER MANDATE WEARING MASKS AT THIS TIME, however, we still strongly encourage the wearing of face masks. We are excited for the decrease in cases and hope this trend continues. The District will continue to follow all quarantine guidelines set forth by the Arkansas Department of Health and the CDC. We will continue to monitor the weekly ACHI data and if cases increase to “orange” or above, as the school board policy reads, we will reinstate the mandatory mask policy.

The Cross County School District is in the process of implementing more Character Education into our everyday curriculum.  This is not a substitute for our regular academic curriculum, but simply embedding these values into everyday lessons.  Some examples are respect, responsibility, citizenship, and resilience.  We wanted to take this opportunity to obtain feedback from parents to ascertain what they feel are the most important character traits to see in our children, teachers and staff.   Please select the attached link to complete the survey. If you have children who attend the high school and the elementary, please fill out a survey for each building. Thank you all in advance for taking the time to provide this feedback. https://forms.gle/EwUgVzSt2H5NZEX56

Mr. Tim Jarrett is teaching a math lesson while also embedding aspects of character education. He said, “Resiliency is not just a word for the week, it should be one of your words for a lifetime.”

For Immediate Release: October 21, 2021, Today’s ACHI data indicates the Cross County School District is the high “orange” level of positive community Covid-19 cases. While the District policy states masks will be required when the District is in the “orange”, “red”, or “purple” levels, recent quarantine guidelines have changed from those being within six (6) feet of each other to three (3) feet of each other. Our staff has been working this week to make adjustments to their classrooms so students are at least three feet apart where possible. Beginning Friday, October 22, 2021, students riding in school transportation (buses, vans, etc.) will be required to wear masks while in those vehicles because three feet distance is not typically possible. Additionally, students will only be required to wear masks during the school day when they cannot be at least three (3) feet apart or are in close proximity to each other, i.e., while working in groups or other related activities where this distance cannot be achieved. Again, much emphasis is being placed on room arrangements so over three feet distance can be achieved in as many classrooms as possible to help alleviate the requirement of having to wear masks in most areas, including the cafeteria.

Statement from CCSD regarding Covid-19: On August 6, 2021, Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox issued a temporary injunction against the enforcement of Act 1002. Act 1002 prohibited school boards from adopting a mask policy. Since Act 1002 is currently not enforceable, school boards now have the authority to legally adopt and enforce a mask policy. The entire state of Arkansas is considered to currently have a high transmission rate of COVID-19. Based on the latest guidance from the CDC, DESE, and ADH, the District is strongly encouraging all individuals to wear a mask while in classrooms and on buses. If all individuals are wearing a mask while indoors, then the number of students and staff required to quarantine will be reduced in the event there is a confirmed case of a COVID-19 exposure. This situation is fluid. The District will continue to monitor positive cases, quarantine statuses, and guidance from state agencies while continuing social distancing measures and thorough cleaning as we did in the previous school year. The District may ultimately decide to adopt a mask policy to keep our students and staff in school to continue in-person learning. As we look forward to the excitement of a new school year, we will remain cautious and keep the safety of our students and staff as our top priority.
