All of our students have started the year reading the picture book (K-2) or novel (3-6) version of Wonder by RJ Palacio. We have had such wonderful conversations about kindness and being a true friend throughout CCETA. Our sixth graders finished the book last week and completed multiple activities, including covering our school with positive shout out post-its. Thank you 6th grade for your kind words!

A message about school safety from Superintendent Dr. Nathan Morris: The Cross County School District would like to inform our parents and community of rumors circulating yesterday of an unsubstantiated threat of violence occurring at schools and public places in Arkansas. The Cross County School District is not aware of any threat against our school district. Late last night, the Arkansas State Police released this statement: “The Arkansas State Police has been in close contact in recent days with the Federal Bureau of Investigation attempting to identify the source of an alleged threat of gun violence at an undisclosed Arkansas school reportedly planned for later this week.  At this time no corroborating evidence or useful details have been uncovered in regard to the information provided to the FBI. In the event more specific or credible information is received; it will be shared with local law enforcement offices, state and local school officials, as well as Arkansas citizens. The Arkansas State Police asks that if anyone has information about a threat of violence whether the site of the threat may be a school or other public place, please contact your nearest Arkansas State Police Office or local law enforcement agency.  A complete listing of state police offices can be found at https://asp.arkansas.gov/divisions/highway-patrol/“ We take the safety of all of our students and staff seriously and will continue to stay in constant contact with the Cross County Sheriff’s office and the Cherry Valley Police Department over the coming days. Both departments will give additional support to our District and we will continue to send updates if information changes.

A message from Superintendent Dr. Nathan Morris: It has been brought to our attention that a company outside of our community has been asking for donations for items such as t-shirts on behalf of the Cross County School District. All fundraisers that support any Cross County School District activity, grade level, or athletic team run through our School District locally. Administration, school employees, and The Nest Club (booster club) will reach out to you directly for any donations or fundraising requests. We do not utilize outside companies to ask for donations on our behalf. Thank you for your continued support of our schools!

A few important announcements after our first day of school!
Elementary Parents and Guardians: We appreciate your patience in making the Elementary car rider line single file at the pickup point behind AR Care. The single file line ensures that no student has to walk in front of another vehicle or cross traffic to be picked up. This afternoon, the single file line caused a backup to Highway 42. Starting tomorrow afternoon, as you turn off of Highway 42 and enter the car rider gravel drive, you may now form two lines to reduce backup. The two lanes will continue only on the gravel drive. Please alternate cars to reform a single file line at the dumpsters behind the elementary school so pickup remains safe for students at the car rider doors. It is essential to return to the single file lines off of Highway 42 and on all paved roads so that buses can exit campus unimpeded. There will be staff members outside to assist with this process for the next week. Please see the diagram below for reference. No vehicles should utilize the front of the elementary school as a drop off point before 7:50 AM or after 3:00 PM. High School Parents and Guardians: Please drop students off in the morning after 7:30. Staff members are on duty to supervise students in the school after this time.
