Cross County School District is excited to announce Coach Kyle James as the new head basketball coach for the Junior High and Senior High Lady Thunderbirds. Coach James is a 2016 graduate of Cross County High School and received his Bachelor’s of Social Science in Education from Arkansas State University in 2020. For the past two years Coach James has taught Civics and World History and been the assistant coach for junior and senior high boys at Rivercrest High School. Coach James is looking forward to being back at Cross County to make a difference. “Having the opportunity to be a Thunderbird again and help create positive change within the district and community is a blessing to me,” said Coach James. “The ability to be closer to home and transform this program into a winning program is something I take great pride in.” Coach James believes work off the court will bring successes on the court. “Helping these girls build good work ethic habits will translate to wins on the basketball court, but also help mold these girls into good citizens to be successful in anything they want to accomplish after high school,” said Coach James. “The vision I have for this basketball program is to build a culture of hard work and professionalism.” Coach James and his fiance Terra have one son, Grayson. Thunderbird Nation, please congratulate Coach James on this new opportunity for him and our Lady T-birds! #proudTBirds #thunderbirds

Cross County School District is actively monitoring the weather and will be throughout the day. The District has safe rooms at both campuses that provide ample space for all students and staff. In the event students and staff are in the saferoom during an active tornado warning, there will be no way to enter the school to pick up your students. Saferooms are designed to be the safest place for students during these weather events. If the District decides to delay dismissal and/or afternoon bus routes, we will let you know as soon as possible.

Cross County High School has been made aware of and seen threatening messages in the boy’s restroom this week. Through vigilance and investigations, there were no messages found today. We will continue to be alert and work with our school resource officer and other local authorities, who will have a heightened presence at the school, to determine who is writing these messages. We take these kinds of messages seriously and will continue to monitor and investigate this as more information is discovered.
